In the narrow lanes of Bora Bazaar, where life moves quickly and space is scarce, one man quietly carries out his day’s work — arranging and selling bananas with care, determination, and only one hand. Dressed in a simple kurta-pyjama and a white Nehru cap, Vithal has been doing this for over 25 years, becoming a familiar presence to many who pass by.
Born with only one hand, every single day has been a test of endurance. Yet, he sits firm behind his makeshift display, working long hours, earning around ₹500 on good days, and much less on others. He has no home — he lives on the footpath — surrounded by the noise and chaos of the street, vulnerable to weather, theft, and fatigue.
Vithal’s wife, son, and daughter live in their village. He travels back to see them when he can. But here in Mumbai, he sleeps rough, rises early, and sells bananas not just to make a living — but to prove that he doesn’t need sympathy, just a chance to live with dignity.

apne dum par, bina kisi ke upar bojh bane.”
(All I need is a small room where I can live safely… on my own terms, without being a burden on anyone.)
